Manufacturing support

Keeping critical medical equipment running

Medical device components must meet extremely strict quality and precision requirements. Commercial Gear provides OEM and MRO support for medical equipment by manufacturing custom gears, shafts, splines and sprockets to customer drawings and specifications. Projects can begin with a customer-supplied blank or involve a full manufacturing process that combines CNC turning/milling with precision gear cutting and finishing.

Dedicated inspection ensures components meet the required performance; for example, medical components often use stainless steel, titanium or medical-grade polymers for biocompatibility and sterilization resistance. Our process and inspection services help identify issues early – ensuring replacement parts match critical specifications and operate reliably in medical devices.

Answers to your medical equipment questions

Medical gear & component FAQs.

Common questions about custom gears, replacement components, sprockets and manufacturing requirements for medical equipment projects.

Yes. Commercial Gear supports OEM and MRO projects by manufacturing gears and related components to customer drawings and specifications. Projects can include individual replacement parts or production quantities, and work can start with a customer-supplied blank or include full manufacturing operations.

Commercial Gear manufactures spur, helical, bevel & miter, worm and internal gears, along with related power-transmission components like splines and racks. The appropriate process depends on the gear geometry and drawing requirements. We can also produce miniature gear sets and low-backlash assemblies used in surgical and imaging devices.

Yes. We can manufacture very small, high-precision gears and machined shafts to meet the tight tolerances often required in medical instruments and equipment. CNC gear cutting and turning can be combined to produce features such as fine-pitch threads, splines or encoder-compatible shaft profiles. This integrated process reduces the need for multiple suppliers.

Commercial Gear uses dedicated gear inspection equipment to evaluate profile, lead, composite variation and runout. We can provide inspection reports and dimensional drawings as required. Material certifications can accompany parts if specified. Our processes align with industry standards to ensure consistent quality for critical medical components.

Yes. Commercial Gear manufactures custom sprockets and can modify appropriate stock sprockets through operations including reboring, keyway machining and drilling. (We are also a longtime U.S. Tsubaki distributor.) Customers should provide the chain size or pitch, tooth count, bore, hub details and other requirements when requesting a sprocket.

Send the available drawing or CAD file along with component type, gear or sprocket data, material (including any special medical-grade finish), bore/shaft dimensions, keyway and mounting features, tolerances and required quantity. Include any inspection or certification requirements and information about the operating environment (e.g. sterilization or clean-room conditions) to help us evaluate the application fully.
