About Commercial Gear
For nearly 80 years, Commercial Gear and Sprocket Company has served manufacturers across every sector that depends on motion control — from aerospace and defense to food processing and transit. Our customers return not because we are the largest gear shop, but because we solve the hard jobs others decline.

What we make
Nine product families, cut to your print and inspected before they leave the building.
Why Choose Us
The reasons customers keep coming back — and send us the parts nobody else can make.
Every part is cut to your drawing, not to a catalog. Tooth form, pitch and material are what you specify — we don't approximate a dimension the drawing defines.
We inspect profile, lead and composite error on calibrated instruments, to the AGMA Inspection Manual 2000-A88. Quality is measured, not assumed.
Over 120 years of combined industry experience across the shop, some machinists with more than 30 years on the equipment.
A single prototype, a short run or a repeating production order — quoted and cut on the same equipment, so quality carries across the volume.
Obsolete parts reverse-engineered from a sample, legacy drawings reproduced, and problem gears troubleshot — including parts made elsewhere.
A perfect part that arrives late has failed the job. Expedient delivery is built into how the shop is run.
Upload your drawing or describe your requirements. Our estimators respond within one business day.
Capabilities
Five precision-machining capabilities delivered under one roof, without subcontracting.
Precision you can prove
Read the quality policy we follow, the standards we conform to, and the certifications we hold.
Who We Serve
From global OEMs to specialized machine builders — and the parts nobody else still makes.
How We Work
From quote to ship — every order follows the same disciplined sequence.
Submit drawings, a part number, or a sample. We respond with a quote within 24 business hours.
Our engineers review geometry, material, and fit requirements — and flag any issues before cutting begins.
Certified bar stock ordered to AMS or ASTM specification with full MTRs. No production starts without traceable material.
Hobbing, shaping, grinding, and turning on calibrated CNC equipment to the tolerances your application demands.
CMM dimensional check, gear-checker analysis, and surface finish measurement. Reports available on every order.
Parts packaged to prevent transit damage and shipped to your dock. Our team stays available for any follow-up.

What customers say
Commercial Gear is our go-to for anything outside the standard catalogue. They cut a matched helical set to our drawing — tight index tolerance, right material, right lead — and it was correct on the first piece.
Engineering Manager
Industrial Machinery OEM
We needed a bevel set with an unusual ratio and had a very short lead time. Commercial Gear quoted the same day, confirmed material availability, and delivered ahead of schedule. That is not something you find easily.
Procurement Lead
Defense Contractor
The quality documentation they provide with each order gives us everything we need for our own traceability records. AGMA-conforming inspection, material certs, first-article data — all there without asking twice.
Quality Engineer
Aerospace Subcontractor
No drawing? No problem.
Tell us what the gear needs to do — pitch, ratio, load, environment — and our engineers will help you define the specification.
Frequently Asked
Common questions from procurement teams, engineers, and project managers working with commercial gear components.
Heavy spur, helical and bevel gearing, large sprockets, re-machined stock sprockets and replacement components reviewed from a drawing or sample. The manufacturing scope is confirmed for each requirement.
We can review reverse-engineered replacements from an existing drawing or sample. Include mating-part information and describe any wear or damage so the team can identify what is needed for the review.
Yes. Re-machining stock sprockets is part of our rail-industry offering. Provide the chain specification, tooth count and required bore or mounting changes for review.
A sample can be a starting point for replacement-part review. The team will discuss the geometry, material, mating components and other information needed before manufacturing can be agreed.
These depend on the component and manufacturing scope. Share the required material, critical dimensions, inspection requirements, quantity and desired delivery date for assessment.
Yes. We review custom components for new equipment as well as replacement gearing and sprockets for existing rail cars and track maintenance machinery.
